Many people want free clothes and other home items. If you’re one of those people, the perfect event for you is coming up on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Great Lawn. The Giveaway Shop, an event where you can take whatever you want, will be held at the outdoor study area with the white tents and seating area.
Anyone at KCC who’s a student, faculty member, or staff member, can attend the event. To get in, all you need is your KCC ID, Lumisight clearance, and to check in, after which you have free access to what they’re giving away.
“The beginning idea was for OSA to organize a sort of clothing event: people bring in clean clothing and home goods they don’t want, clothing can be swapped with others or given away,” said Rosa Blanca, one of the planners for the event and member of the OSA staff. “Now the current idea is people just take items without needing to trade. The project is sectioned into two parts, the donation period then redistribution (Giveaway Shop itself).”
Due to the generous donations of numerous people, the giveaway has much for people to take, everything from clothes, backpacks, pots, pans, oil diffusers, and reusable bags to microwaves, books, rice cookers, speakers, and other items. They are either used or barely used and are in great condition. All the donated items are also completely sanitized.
“The purpose of this event is for our college community to find clothing and save money by not spending,” Blanca said.
The items are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to go early.
And the best part is that after attending the Giveaway Shop and taking free items, you can also get canned foods from Pohukaina Food Pantry, which is partnered with the event.
If you’re going to go, check in here and don’t forget to bring your KCC ID and Lumisight clearance.
