Jenny Brown is a 20-year-old, third-year student at Kapiʻolani Community College and is currently majoring in Natural Science with a concentration in Engineering. Her goal is to transfer to UH Mānoa next spring to study Electrical Engineering.
Brown loves science and was drawn to the field of engineering because of how it can be practically applied to society today. She believes that anyone can be an engineer.
“I mean, I think anyone can do it,” Brown said, “but you definitely have to have a certain personality type and like calculus.”
Brown grew up just a few short blocks from the KCC campus in Kapahulu, Hawai‘i, and this has enabled her to be actively involved at the college. Aside from holding the position of Student Congress president, she is an active member of the Ecology Club and finds gardening to be relaxing.
Brown enjoys working in the campus gardens because it helps her de-stress. “Out here, your headspace is focused on [working] rather than on exams and school,” she said.
