Michael Sheehey

Michael Sheehey serves as KCC’s retention coordinator. New to this position since the start of the Fall 2018 semester, Sheehey moved from Pāhoa to Honolulu to jump at this career opportunity. As a retention coordinator, Sheehey works with KCC faculty to oversee campus-wide initiatives to target student success.

Sheehey said that working within the community college gives him this feeling of a “small town vibe.”

“You have the convenience to know who you’re working with and have conversations with these people outside of the context of a specific problem or challenge you’re trying to address,” Sheehey said. “We have to collaborate and cooperate for the sake of our own success.”

20 year old Satya Sokei-Bhanot is a first year Liberal Arts major from Kaimuki. He currently works at the testing facility at Llama Library, but he hopes to achieve a law degree. Since both of his parents and his uncles are all lawyers, he wants to understand how law works. "It seems pretty interesting ... and it's mostly common sense when it comes to figuring out if someone's guilty or not," Sokei-Bhanot stated, "There's a lot [of different types of lawyers], but I'll probably be a prosecutor." After he graduated high school, he is mostly staying home at home and relaxing when not working or studying. Once he finishes his two years at KCC, he is willing to move from Hawaiʻi for a better education, though he'd prefer to stay here.
