Throughout this month there will be several STAR Workshops being held in the First Year Experience (FYE) Office for first-year students (Fall and Spring 2016) to register for the Spring 2017 semester.

Students have from now until November 9 to complete their STAR workshop. Students are encouraged to attend a STAR workshop as soon as possible to remove their hold for next semester’s registration; if the hold is still present in their UH account they are unable to select courses to take until a workshop is completed.

“It [STAR] will help them graduate on time, it keeps them on track, they can plan their classes for spring already, and then learn how to use the new registration tool,” said LaVaché Scanlan, the First Year Experience coordinator. “… It’s different from MyUH.”

Students who are unable to attend the set dates for a STAR workshop can contact their counselors specific to their major but are encouraged to contact the FYE Office first before taking matters into their own hands.

“We can set up an alternative to the workshop,” Scanlan said. “We … don’t want them trying to figure it out on their own; we’re trying to make sure that the communication is better and clearer.”
