Are you having trouble with your classes and don’t know what to do? I get it, college can be really overwhelming, especially when you’re stuck on a problem and don’t know where to begin. But luckily for you, KCC students, you don’t have to figure it all out alone. The Study Hub, located on the second floor of Lamakū Learning Center in Lama Library, offers academic support online and in-person. Online tutoring is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., while in-person tutoring is available from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Here are seven Study Hub tutoring resources you can take advantage of.
WRITING
Don’t know where to start your essay? Writing tutors can help you brainstorm ideas, work on drafts, and create an action plan for your next draft. They can also help you review your APA/MLA citations and provide feedback through an essay drop-off option.
MATH
Having problems in Math and don’t know how to solve it? Math tutors offer course-specific assistance, as well as help with general math questions. If you’re enrolled in a math-related course, check the available courses on this website.
ESOL/ESL
Do you want to feel more confident in using English? ESOL/ESL tutors can help students practice English conversation or help with the courses such as ESOL 50, 52, 90, 92, 94, ESL 100, and IS 54.
LANGUAGE
If you want to try to learn a new language, Study Hub language tutors offer coursework assistance and, when available, conversation practice. Tutoring may be available for languages including Chinese, Filipino, French, Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Note that language tutors’ availability vary each semester. To see what language tutoring is available this semester, check it on this website.
TECH
If navigating technologies give you a headache, Study Hub also has tutors that offer tech assistance. They assist with Lamakū, STAR, Google (Docs, Slides, Calendar, Sheets, Meet, etc.), Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), and Zoom.
RESEARCH
“Where am I supposed to find a source that is accurate, credible, and relevant?”
If research has you asking this question, research tutoring can help. Research tutors help locate sources by using academic databases, work on citation format, design posters, and practice presentations.
HOʻĀ
College is more than just academe. Study Hub also has academic peer coaches who can provide help with your academic journey. They help build academic skill building, time management, navigate financial aid or scholarships, financial literacy questions, mentoring, student support, tech assistance and work on life balance, health and wellness. Appointments are available for academic coaching, financial aid and scholarship, mentoring, student support, and technology assistance. Unlike tutors, academic coaches don’t provide help with specific subjects or assignments.
If you’re struggling to navigate college, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Campus resources like the Study Hub are here to help you stay on track and work toward academic success. Check out the Study Hub website to learn more information about the available services and book an appointment.
